Shaler Area to offer Pre-K program starting February 2016
Shaler Area School District will offer a preschool program for 3- and 4-year-olds by housing Pre-K Counts program classes. 
Shaler Area announces the 2016-17 Kindergarten registration dates
If you have a child who will be 5 years of age ON or BEFORE August 31, 2016 your child is eligible to attend Kindergarten! Shaler Area School District will host Kindergarten registrations February 22-26, 2016 in the child's home school. Please visit the Kindergarten registration website for a complete schedule and details.   
Shaler Area to host Feb. 8 seminar on athletic recruiting

The Shaler Area Athletic Department will host a free seminar to answer questions college-bound athletes and their families may have about the recruiting process at 7pm on Monday, Feb. 8, at Shaler Area High School.  

Be prepared for school closing and delay announcements

With the winter weather season fast approaching, Shaler Area wants to remind families of the district’s procedures for delaying or canceling the school day to ensure families can plan accordingly.  

Shaler Area grad to attend Super Bowl 50 as athletic trainer for the Panthers
Steve Labate, a 2008 Shaler Area graduate, will attend Super Bowl 50 as one of the Carolina Panthers’ six athletic trainers, who together monitor the players rather than the plays to provide the athletes with the medical attention they require on and off the field. 
Shaler Area receives Golden Football from NFL alum through the Super Bowl High School Honor Roll program
Shaler Area School District has been recognized as a member of the NFL’s Super Bowl High School Honor Roll and received a Golden Football by Shaler Area alumnus and former NFL athlete Steve Sciullo.  
Shaler Area School District and custodial and maintenance union ratify contract agreement
Shaler Area School District and the Teamsters Local Union No. 205, which represents the district’s custodial and maintenance employees, are proud to announce they have signed a new five-year contract.

Shaler Area Elementary teacher Monica McElwain 1 of 8 to be awarded grant
Congratulations to Shaler Area Elementary School art teacher Monica McElwain who was recognized for her creativity in the classroom by being awarded a $2,000 grant from the Allegheny Intermediate Unit. 
Shaler Area Titan Stadium reopens

The Titan Stadium, located at 1800 Mt. Royal Blvd., is open to the public during regular posted hours following a temporary closure for ongoing maintenance and construction preparation.

Shalerpalooza VIII set for Feb. 20
Shalerpalooza VIII, a concert to benefit the class funds, will feature student musicians and soloists in a fundraising concert to benefit class funds on Feb. 20 at Mr. Smalls Theatre, in Millvale.  
Change Machine: A new grant opportunity for student-led initiatives for positive change
The Sprout Fund has a new initiative the Change Machine, which provides $500 grants to support, celebrate and showcase unique youth-led initiatives with the power to incite positive change. 
Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra presents a free concert on Feb. 14
The Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra presents An American in Paris, a free concert at Heinz Hall on February 14, 2016.  
Nominate a student or coach for the Pittsburgh Positive Athlete award

Through March 30, coaches, parents and fans are invited to nominate high school aged student-athletes in any sport for Hines Ward’s Positive Athlete Pittsburgh program.  

Kean Quest Vocal Contest
Students and adults are invited to participate in the Kean Quest Vocal Contest starting in February. Proceeds benefit St. Barnabas Free Care Fund.
