Shaler Area students take top awards in Japanese speech contest
Shaler Area High School students took top awards in the 22nd annual High School Japanese Speech Contest held at the University of Pittsburgh. 
Shaler Area continues its Respect for All campaign with Challenge #2
This school year, Shaler Area has been focused on promoting and celebrating respect within the school district. On April 17, the district launched Challenge #2 to say thank you or show gratitude to as many people as possible and is inviting the entire community to participate in this challenge, too, to promote an awareness and culture of respect. 
PA Pre-K Counts is now accepting applications for Marzolf & Reserve Primary schools
PA Pre-K Counts is now accepting applications for the 2019-2020 school year for Marzolf and Reserve Primary schools. The program provides a high quality Pre-Kindergarten program for families that qualify. 
Shaler Area students received top awards at the Festivals of Music
Shaler Area High School students returned from the Festivals of Music, held in Chicago, Ill. in April 2019 , with top awards as well as the Dr. Tim Lautzenhauser’s Esprit de Corps award presented for the students’ exemplary attitude of positive support and outstanding personal behavior. About 230 Shaler Area High School students from the concert band, marching band and auxiliaries, choir, and orchestra participated in the Festivals of Music, an adjudicated competition. 
Important calendar update: Shaler Area schools will be in session on April 17, 18, 22 and 23
Please be advised. Shaler Area School District students will attend class on Wednesday, April 17; Thursday, April 18; Monday, April 22; and Tuesday, April 23, 2019 as a result of classes being canceled on January 30, January 31, February 1, and February 20 due to inclement weather. The make-up days are in accordance with the make-up days outlined in the 2018-19 school calendar. 
Shaler Area students place in High School Integration Bee
Shaler Area students were recognized for their participation in the 15th High School Integration Bee hosted by the College in High School Program and Department of Mathematics at the University of Pittsburgh on April 7. 
Shaler Area students earn awards in regional science
Two Shaler Area High School students were recognized for their participation in the Carnegie Science Center’s Covestro Pittsburgh Regional Science & Engineering Fair.

Shaler Area Middle School students perform The Enchanted Bookshop
See your favorite book characters come to life. The Enchanted Bookshop, by Todd Wallinger, will be performed by Shaler Area Middle School students at the Shaler Area Middle School Auditorium, on Saturday, April 27, at 7pm, and Sunday, April 28, at 2pm. Produced by special arrangement with Pioneer Drama Service, Inc., Denver, Colorado. Tickets are available at the door: $7 for adults; $5 for senior citizens; $3 for students.
