PRE-PURCHASED LUNCHES
Parents/guardians are encouraged to pay for students' meals in advance. Meal accounts are created to provide a simple, yet quick service experience. Pre-payments will be applied to your child's designated meal account. An identification number will be assigned to each individual meal account. When the student purchases a meal in the cafeteria, the meal or dollar value will be deducted from the pre-paid balance. Checks are to be made payable to "SASD Cafeteria Fund" and can be sent to the school cafeteria or secretary. Also, see above the MypaymentsPlus tab on this website.
Free and reduced price breakfast meals are available to students that qualify for assistance. Applications are available
on-line. All students who were previously on this program
must RE-APPLY every year.
BREAKFAST PROGRAM
SASD participates in the National School Breakfast Program (NSBP). Breakfast is available to all students on a daily basis. As in the lunch program, milk is provided with each breakfast. Shaler Area received a $19,245-grant from the state Department of Education to support its school breakfast program K-6 in the 2018-19 school year. Students will see increased options that are designed to appeal to young learners.

A LA CARTE ITEMS
Students also have the opportunity to purchase a la carte items in addition to their lunch at the primary, elementary, middle, and high school levels. Starting in the 2018-19 school year, students in grades 2-3 also will have the option of purchasing various “smart snack” a la carte items during lunch. "Smart snack"-approved items contain less than 200 calories, 200 mg of sodium, and only 35% of the calories can come from fat. The first ingredient in smart snacks must be a whole grain, fruit, vegetable, or protein. If you do not wish for your primary student to purchase a snack item, please contact your building secretary for an opt-out form.
