Remote & in-person tech support available during temporary transition to virtual instruction
Tech support for student devices and accounts is available during full remote learning.  
Free breakfast and lunch available during virtual instruction

Due to the increasing rise of community transmission rates of COVID-19 in Allegheny County, the district will be transitioning to virtual instruction for a three-week period beginning on Monday, November 23. The grab-n-go breakfast and lunch program will continue to provide meals for students while the district is in the 100% virtual model at three pick-up locations.  

Shaler Area to transition to virtual instruction starting November 23
Due to the increasing rise of community transmission rates of COVID-19 in Allegheny County, the district will be transitioning to virtual instruction for a three-week period beginning on Monday, November 23. The district will tentatively return to hybrid instruction on Monday, December 14, 2020 for Cohort A and Thursday, December 17, 2020 for Cohort B, however this schedule is subject to change.   
Shaler Area students help present virtual event in recognition of Native American Heritage Month
In recognition of Native American Heritage Month, join Indigenous youth leaders and their allies for an evening of virtual art, dialogue, and activism the day before Thanksgiving. From Truth to Power: Indigenous Youth Leaders Speak will be presented virtually on November 25, 2020 from 7 to 8:15 p.m. (ET).  
School Board reorganization and regular voting meetings scheduled for December 2
The Shaler Area Board of School Directors scheduled its Reorganization Meeting and Combined COW/Voting Meeting on December 2 in person and virtually. The Reorganization Meeting will start at 7 p.m. and the Combined COW/Voting Meeting will start at 7:30 p.m.  The public can participate in the meeting via a virtual platform or via RSVP to participate in person. To maintain the capacity limits on indoor gatherings, in-person participation will be limited. Once the in-person attendance capacity is reached, the public may still participate via the virtual platform. Information regarding the specifics of the platform and RSVP form will be posted to the district website on Monday, November 30, 2020.  
Superintendent addresses the rise in COVID-19 cases and its effect on the district
In a communication dated November 16, Superintendent Sean Aiken addresses the recent increase in COVID-19 cases seen in Allegheny County, surrounding counties, and the state and what effect that has on the instruction model used within Shaler Area School District.   
Shaler Area Backpack Initiative to continue to provide weekend food supply to students in need
Thanks to the support of the Shaler Area community, the school district will restart its Backpack Initiative for the 2020-2021 school year. This program was established to assist district students in grades K-8 in need of weekend food supplies. Each child participating in this program will receive a bag packed with child-friendly, single-serving snacks and easily prepared meals each week. At this time, there are no eligibility requirements for participating in this program other than completing and submitting the form found on the Backpack Initiative website: https://www.sasd.k12.pa.us/BackpackInitiative.aspx.
