Burchfield Primary School Counseling Mission Statement

The comprehensive school counseling program at Burchfield Primary School empowers and advocates for all students to reach their highest potential through an equitable, collaborative, innovative and creative learning environment.  The program focuses on academic, social, emotional, and career development within a supportive and nurturing setting.  All students are provided equitable access to developmentally appropriate and data-driven counseling services enabling them to become successful and productive members of our diverse and global society.  

Burchfield Primary School Counseling Vision

The vision of the Burchfield Primary School counseling program is that all students realize their academic, career and social-emotional potential through collaboration, critical thinking and creative thinking.  Our students are lifelong learners who possess the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively solve problems, be empathic, resilient, and respectful.  They are valuable, productive, successful, and contributing members of their community and global society.   

Burchfield Primary School Counseling Beliefs
1.  Every student can learn, succeed, and become productive members of society.
2.  All students have dignity and worth.
3.  Every student should have access to and opportunity for a high-quality education.
4.  Every student should have access to a comprehensive school counseling program.
5.  Every student’s needs (ethnic, cultural, racial, emotional and developmental exceptionalities, socioeconomic, and gender preferences) are considered in the planning and implementing of the school counseling program.
6.  Effective school counseling is a collaborative process involving school counselors, students, families, teachers, administrators, and education stakeholders.
7.  School counselors are leaders in the school, district, state, and nation.
8.  Comprehensive school counseling programs promote and enhance student academic, career, and social/emotional outcomes.
9.  Every student should graduate from high school prepared for post-secondary opportunities.

Burchfield Primary recognized at annual ASCA conference
In July 2022, Burchfield Primary School was recognized at the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) Annual Conference in Austin, Texas, as a Recognized ASCA Model Program (RAMP).
Burchfield Primary School awarded $8,000 SWPBIS grant
Shaler Area is proud to announce Burchfield Primary School received an $8,000 grant through the 2020-2021 Pennsylvania Department of Education’s Bureau of Special Education Performance Grant: School Based Behavioral Health Programs: Installation of Tier 1 SWPBIS.
