Course Overview:
The Kindergarten curriculum is designed to give children a foundation for all future educational endeavors. In reading, children explore letter identification, letter sound correspondence, word building, and writing through our new series Harcourt Story Town. By the end of Kindergarten, children should be able to read simple sentences that include high frequency words and decodable words. In mathematics, children are expected to learn to recognize numbers and their quantities up to twelve, count aloud to 50, identify and draw basic shapes, count by tens, identify money (nickels, pennies, and dimes), tell time to the hour, and add and subtract quantities up to five. We utilize the Harcourt Kindergarten Mathematics book and hands on manipulative items to teach these concepts. By first grade, children will be prepared with basic foundations in mathematics and language arts. The children also begin exposure to science and social studies concepts.
