Fairchild Challenge at Phipps
Shaler Area High School GATE students placed first in the Environmental Action Challenge. This is the fourth year in a row that our High School has won this Fairchild Challenge at Phipps.  
Kennywood Tickets on Sale
Shaler Area School Picnic is Saturday, May 3, 2014.  Tickets will be on sale at Central Office on April 30, May 1, May 2 from 8:30 - 3:30.

Seel Named SADD National Student of the Year

Shaler Area Chimney Swift Tower
In the fall of 2012, Audubon Society of Western PA, in collaboration with Shaler Area School District, and with sparkfunding from the Spark Fund, installed a Chimney Swift Tower at the Shaler Area High School.
 
Parent/Guardian Educational Technology Survey
As we continue to work towards excellence in our district we are looking to gather data relevant to the use of Educational Technologies throughout the district. World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh
A special seminar and video conference was hosted by Shaler Area High School.  A Look at Japan in 2014: A Conversation with Ambassador Ichiro Fujisaki, Former Ambassador of Japan to the United States. International presentation at Shaler Area helps students expand horizons TRIBLIVE/Neighborhoods 3-26-14  
Student Parking
Beginning Monday, March 24th Thursday, March 20th, Hilltop parking lot will be CLOSED to student drivers due to the start of the Girls Softball season.   All overflow parking will be directed to the Matulevic Field lot until the conclusion of the Girls Softball season.  Student are reminded to arrive on campus early to secure a parking spot and be on time for 1st period.

We are pleased to announce the release of our free eSchoolView KnowItAll App for the Shaler Area School District. It is compatible with all Apple & Android devices. 
Focus on Academic Achievement

1. Establish a safe and disciplined learning environment that challenges students at all levels, involves parents in their child’s education, and encourages the development of a strong work ethic.

2. Promote collaboration and foster a professional learning community with the primary focus on student achievement through long-term, intensive staff development and high quality instruction.

3. Align the written, taught, and tested curriculum through the development of challenging standards with a focus on reading, writing, speaking, and mathematics, emphasizing mastery of the basics and development of higher level thinking and problem solving skills.

4. Provide a support system that allows all students who fall behind to get extra help, then address those students at more frequent intervals to determine the effectiveness of remediation strategies.

5. Support and enhance the comprehensive arts curriculum (visual, dance, theater, music, and physical education) emphasize components of the district wellness program, and incorporate the functions necessary to develop technologically proficient students.
