As the program continues to grow, the Shaler Area Backpack Initiative needs your help to continue to provide Shaler Area students and their siblings with a weekend food supply.
Every Friday, students enrolled in the Backpack Initiative program receive a bag for themselves and each of their siblings that contains child-friendly, single-serving meals and snacks for the weekend, including two breakfast items, two lunch items and two snacks.
The Shaler Area Backpack Initiative organizers appreciate the generosity of the Shaler Area community to support the program through food and monetary donations.
However, in anticipation of the upcoming extended breaks for Thanksgiving and winter, the Backpack Initiative needs additional food donations to supply the enrolled students with food for the longer school breaks.
There are currently 200 children enrolled in the growing program, and it takes about $200-$250 each week to supply enough food for every child.
