Shaler Area third-grader recognized as Distinguished Student

Jeffery Primary School third-grader Kiersten Bork was recognized as a Distinguished Student at the annual Pennsylvania Association of Federal Programs Coordinators (PAFPC) Conference on May 8.

Kiersten represented Jeffery Primary and Shaler Area School District by speaking about the benefits of the Title I reading program during the annual conference at Seven Springs.

Jeffery Primary and Marzolf Primary recently were named Title I Distinguished Schools by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, Division of Federal Programs. The Shaler Area schools are two of only 168 Title I schools in Pennsylvania to be named a Title I Distinguished School for the 2016-2017 school year. Title I Distinguished Schools are selected based upon the highest 5% of Title I schools’ aggregate math and reading PSSA data.

Kiersten is one of only three students in the state chosen to speak at the annual conference because of her participation in the Title I program and her demonstration of outstanding academic achievement as a result of being a part of the program.

Kiersten lives in Shaler Township and is the daughter of Michael and Kristine Bork.
