Shaler Area holds ribbon cutting ceremony for the Louis C. Martig Field at Titan Stadium

On October 8, during the Homecoming 2016 pre-game ceremonies, Shaler Area School District and community celebrated the improvements at Titan Stadium with a special ribbon cutting ceremony to dedicate the Louis C. Martig Field at Titan Stadium.

The field is named in honor of Lou Martig who was a star member of the football and basketball team at Millvale High School. After graduating from the University of Virginia he returned to Shaler Area as a teacher and coach. In 1980, Mr. Martig was appointed Shaler Area Athletic Director, a position he held until his death on June 23, 1991. Mr. Martig is a member of the first class to be inducted into the Shaler Area Athletic Hall of Fame.

Taking the field for the ribbon cutting ceremony were members of the Lou Martig family – including his daughter and grandson, joined by members of the District administration, School Board and HHSDR Architects & Engineers, and students representing the varsity cheerleading, football, lacrosse, soccer and track teams.
