Shaler Area grad to premier first documentary on Nov. 12
On Nov. 12 more than 2,000 students, veterans, and community members will gather at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall to watch the premier of “Our Way Home.” This film, produced by Shaler Area grad Alexis Werner, follows the homecoming stories of nine veterans from World War II to present day who have suffered from the effects of Post Traumatic Stress.

Alexis Werner became interested in veterans and their struggles returning home in 2009 when her stepfather returned home from a tour of duty in Afghanistan suffering severely from the effects of Post Traumatic Stress. Werner created Seeds of Hope, an organization for veterans and their families. Seeds of Hope started as community gardens planted to spread awareness about Post Traumatic Stress and other challenges veterans face when returning home. Seeds of Hope has since grown to include a children’s books and “Our Way Home.”

In addition to the initial premier on Nov. 12, Seeds of Hope will screen "Our Way Home" in 20 cities nationwide.
