Students Compete at Tri-Bowl Athletic Competition
Shaler Area students traveled to Grove City college for a two-day state-level competition known as Tri-Bowl. At Tri-Bowl all the academic games qualifiers from each of the 64+ school districts in western PA gather to compete and determine who is the best-of-the-best in Pennsylvania. In the competition called Presidents, the all-girl Shaler Area team named “Dear Mrs. President” claimed first place!

An Academic Games season consists of 6 competitions during the school year: Equations, On-Sets, LinguiSTIX, Presidents, Propaganda, and Theme.  Students have roughly a month to prepare for each event and then compete first at a regional level.  Shaler Area competes in the WPAGL division of central-western PA. The other two regions occupy the north and south of us.  If a student wins at the regional level, they earn an invite to compete at the Tri-Bowl. Students who either win two events during the regular season or claim a victory at Tri-Bowl can then participate at the National level.  This year’s Nationals are being held in Orlando, Florida.

The team is led by Mr. Reagle, who himself competed in the Academic Games when he was a student. For years Mr. Reagle proudly displayed the Thinker trophy (patterned after the Rodin statue) that he won as part of a team that took third place at Nationals.

The following students have earned the ability to compete at Nationals this year:
Abigail M.
Chloe L.
Natalia V.
Nora L.
Elizabeth D.
Charlie C.
