High school places first in Fairchild Challenge at Phipps: Challenge #1
Shaler Area High School took first place in the Fairchild Challenge at Phipps: Challenge #1.

The Fairchild Challenge at Phipps is a yearlong environmental competition in which students must complete monthly challenges, which will be combined into an overall score at the conclusion of the school year. In Challenge #1, high school students were tasked with creating a sustainable and healthy meal cookbook with 10 recipes.

Shaler Area students created 10 original recipes called “Eco Edibles,” which used all parts of the plants, thus creating little to no waste. The students also researched and wrote about the global and environmental impact of this type of thinking.

The cookbook featured original artwork for the cover and photos of the recipe items.
