Shaler Area High School junior 1 of 30 selected for AHN Healthcare Discovery Summer Internship
Samantha Goetz
Shaler Area junior Samantha Goetz is one of 30 selected for the competitive Allegheny Health Network’s Healthcare Discovery Summer Internship, an eight-week learning experience for high school juniors and seniors.

Goetz, an AP Biology student, is interested in pursuing a career in the medical field after graduation and is excited to be accepted into the program and for the opportunity to work in a hospital setting.

The internship provides students with hands-on learning experiences in both clinical and non-clinical areas within a hospital setting as well as exposure to medical professionals. The internship assigns a five-student cohort of high school juniors and seniors to each of AHN’s six local area hospitals.

Additionally, students will spend a total of three Fridays at the Simulation, Teaching, and Academic Research (STAR) Center at Allegheny Health Network for medical simulations, professional development workshops, and research project work. At the conclusion of the internship, each student cohort will present a research project to hospital staff and members of the leadership team.
