Three Shaler Area students accepted into Honors Jazz Band


Three Shaler Area High School students are being recognized for their musical abilities by being accepted into the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association District 1 Honors Jazz Band.

The students auditioned for the honor in November and the following students from Shaler Area were accepted into the ensemble:
  • Jake Aufman (grade 11) - Drum Set
  • Jake Matthews (grade 12) - Trumpet
  • Jon MacDonald (grade 11) - Trombone
The PMEA District 1 Honors Jazz Band Festival will be held at Moon Area on December 9 and 10. This festival is comprised of students from 54 school districts in Allegheny, Washington, Westmoreland, Greene and Fayette County. The guest conductors for the Jazz Bands are: Dr. Jason Kush (Slippery Rock University), Dr. David Glover (Slippery Rock University), and Neil King, Director of Bands at Monongalia County Schools in West Virginia.
