Shaler Area to host a series of Send-Off Parades for transitioning students
Shaler Area School District teachers and staff plan to celebrate and share best wishes with students who are transitioning out of each school building with a series of celebratory Send-Off Parades.

The district invites families with students in third grade, sixth grade, and eighth grade to decorate their vehicles and drive through their school’s campus to wave to teachers and staff before transitioning to a new school building next year.

The parade events are scheduled as follows before the official end of the school year on June 5.

Burchfield Primary
3rd-Grade Send-Off Parade
Thursday, June 4
11 to 11:45 a.m.
Drivers are to follow traffic patterns at the school. Teachers and staff will line the sidewalk around the school perimeter.

Marzolf Primary
3rd-Grade Send-Off Parade
Wednesday, June 3
11 to 11:45 a.m.
Drivers are to follow traffic patterns at the school. Teachers and staff will line the sidewalk in the front of the building.

Reserve Primary
3rd-Grade Send-Off Parade
Wednesday, June 3
3 to 3:45 p.m.
Drivers are to follow traffic patterns at the school. Teachers and staff will line the sidewalk in the front of the building.

Scott Primary
3rd-Grade Send-Off Parade
Wednesday, June 3
11 a.m. to noon
Students with a last name beginning with A-K are asked to attend from 11-11:30 a.m., and students with a last name beginning with L-Z are asked to attend from 11:30-12:00. All vehicles will follow the traffic patterns for student pick-up and exit campus by turning RIGHT onto Scott Avenue.

Shaler Area Elementary School
6th-Grade Send-Off Parade
Tuesday, June 2
2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Vehicles will follow the parade route by using Scott Avenue and enter the Scott Primary front parking lot staging area beginning at 2 p.m. Police will direct traffic through the parade route. Students with a last name beginning with A-K are asked to attend from 2:30-3:30, and students with a last name beginning with L-Z are asked to attend from 3:30-4:30. All vehicles will exit campus by turning RIGHT onto Scott Avenue.

Shaler Area Middle School
8th-Grade Send-Off Parade
Friday, May 29
10 to 11 a.m.
Vehicles should enter from Mt. Royal Blvd. on the library side of the building and proceed around the back of the building. Teachers and staff will try to choose the best decorated vehicle.

The events are limited to only third grade, sixth grade, and eighth grade families for traffic control at each respective site. Families and students are asked to remain in their vehicles at all times during the events. No items or gifts will be distributed or accepted between vehicles and participants to minimize contact. Teachers and staff will be practicing social distancing on the sidewalks.
