Shaler Area school nurses receive COVID-19 vaccination

Shaler Area’s five school nurses are receiving COVID-19 vaccinations as part of the state’s phased approach for vaccine distribution.

As health care personnel, school nurses qualify to receive the vaccine as part of Phase 1A of Pennsylvania’s COVID-19 vaccination plan.

“I want to do anything I can to help combat COVID-19 and this pandemic, keep the students safe, keep my patients safe, and keep my family safe,” said Jessica Wilson, Shaler Area school nurse at the Elementary School.

“In order to do this, we need to use all tools available — that includes vaccines, wearing masks, social distancing, and washing our hands. By doing this we can protect not only ourselves, but all of those around us.”

Four of Shaler Area’s school nurses received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccination the week of January 18. One school nurse has received two doses of the COVID-19 vaccination as part of her work at an area hospital.
