This year Scott Albert, Director of Bands at Shaler Area Elementary School, will play his tenor sax in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade as part of a salute to America’s band directors. Recognizing the foundational role these educators play in the lives of their students, Mr. Albert is one of 408 band directors whose applications were selected to participate in this iconic holiday celebration.
The Saluting America’s Band Directors parade entry will again convey its theme, “America’s band directors: We teach music. We teach life.” to recognize the extraordinary dedication and accomplishments of band directors and music educators everywhere. Throughout their careers, the music educators in this band have collectively mentored and taught hundreds of thousands of students. These professionals not only teach and direct music, they teach about life itself. According to Albert, “We are very excited and honored to be selected to march and perform with a prestigious group of music educators from across the country this coming Thanksgiving.”
In addition to Scott Albert from Shaler, Eryn Carranza from South Fayette, Linda Voegler Granite from North Allegheny, Jessica Haberman from Northgate, Cyndi Mancini from Montour, Louise Marino from Mt. Lebanon and David Young from Peters Township will join the Saluting America's Band Directors parade.
Watch for Mr. Albert around 10:00 EST in the parade, right behind the Snoopy balloon!
