Shaler Area Schools Recognized for Implementation of PBIS
The Shaler Area School District is committed to fostering a learning environment that gives students all the tools they need to thrive. Schools in the district have integrated school-wide Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS). PBIS is a proactive approach that incentivizes and rewards positive choices students make.

PBIS not only enables teachers to recognize positive behavior in students, but it gives students the skills and practices they need to make healthy decisions. Through incentivizing positive choices and equipping students, PBIS creates more engaged classrooms, minimizes disruptions, and promotes school community as students work together toward goals. Dr. Royall, Principal of Shaler Area High School, explains, “High school teachers have actively supported our PBIS initiative which has positively re-shaped our culture. Students are continually demonstrating pride, respect and honor in class and throughout the school.”

Five schools in the Shaler Area School District are being recognized for their successful use of PBIS. Scott Primary, Burchfield Primary, and Shaler Area Elementary are being honored at the participation level; Shaler Area Middle School at the tier 1 initial school level, and Shaler Area High School as a tier 1 sustaining school level.

Later this month each of these schools will receive recognition at the 2022 PAPBS Implementers’ Forum held November 30–December 2, 2022, in Hershey, Pennsylvania.

Thank you to each of the educators in these schools who have collaborated to create a positive learning environment that supports all students.
Students at SAMS participate in a time of connection that’s part of the PBIS program.
