Shaler Area is proud to announce Alexzia Seng, a junior, won 1st place in the National Chemistry Week Illustrated Poetry Contest sponsored by the Pittsburgh Section of the American Chemical Society (ACS).

Entries were judged based upon relevance to and incorporation of this year’s theme, “Marvelous Metals,” word choice and imagery, colorful artwork, adherence to poem style, originality and creativity, and overall presentation.  

Alexzia Seng wrote and illustrated a poem about gadolinium. She will receive a $50 prize and her poem will advance to the national contest.
