While the format may have changed this year, Shaler Area High School students hosted the 3rd annual Elementary School Science Fair for students in grades 4 to 6 in March.
Each year, students from Shaler Area High School’s science club and Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) program invite Shaler Area Elementary students to explore scientific principles through the creation of a science fair project. To ensure the health and safety of the students, this year’s science fair was held virtually.
Elementary students could choose to record a presentation of their poster and facts about their experiment then upload to a Google classroom or present their findings synchronously via Google Meet with the judges asking questions live. The following Shaler Area High School students served as judges: Emily Peterson, Lauryn Caplan, Caty Clark, Maggie Rea, Madison Helfer, Kylie Clark, Jamie Eichmiller, Aidan Brophy, Abby Guiste, Piper Keane, Jenny Moore, and Hannah Coleman.
Shaler Area Elementary students received a medal that was designed by high school junior Aidan Brophy and printed on a 3D printer. Students received an award of excellence in a category.
