5th Grade Goes to Heinz History Center
20 5th grade GATE students from Shaler Area Elementary School were enriched in Social Studies and Writing when they competed in the “History Bowl” at the Heinz History Center on October 29th. Each team consisted of 4 students who completed history based activities throughout the museum. The tasks covered the topics of Pittsburgh Innovations, Pennsylvania’s contribution and involvement in the Civil War, “Poptastic!” Art from local artist Burton Morris and Sports legends of the Pittsburgh Area.
For students who did not attend the History Bowl they will attend the Science Bowl in January.
6th Graders Experience Science in a New Way
All 6th Grade GATE students attended the Faraday Lecture at Soldiers and Sailors Hall on Tuesday, November 18th.
4th Grade students will be going to the Shaler Area High School Greenhouse in the spring for their field trip.
