COVID-19 Dashboard

The state Department of Health (DOH) and Department of Education (PDE) recommend a Full Remote Learning Model for all schools in counties with substantial level of community transmission. Allegheny County is currently experiencing a substantial level of community transmission.

Since Shaler Area is electing to pursue in-person instruction while the county is experiencing substantial community transmission, the district must follow the recommendations to close individual school buildings that experience positive COVID-19 cases within a rolling 14-day period. The number of positive COVID-19 cases that will trigger a school closure is based on the size of the school (see the chart to the right).

For a full chart outlining the DOH and PDE recommendations based on the size of the school, please visit this PDE webpage.

Dashboard for Shaler Area Schools

In order to increase transparency and to help the district community anticipate the need for a possible school closure, the dashboard below will provide a visual way to track the positive COVID-19 cases in each school building over a 14-day period.

About this Dashboard:
* Active Cases are defined as confirmed positive or presumed positive cases of COVID-19.

* This dashboard does not include students or staff members who are quarantined due to close contact.

* The data in this dashboard reflects active cases beginning January 19, 2021 when the district transitioned back to the hybrid instruction model and does not include active cases prior to that date.

Please use the drop down menu under "Individual School Activity" for school-specific information related to case counts and possible closures.

Building Size

Under the state Department of Health and Department of Education guidelines, Shaler Area’s school buildings are identified as the following:

Large school buildings (greater than 900 students)

Shaler Area High School

Medium school buildings (500-900 students)

Shaler Area Middle School

Shaler Area Elementary School

Small school buildings (less than 500 students)

Burchfield Primary School

Marzolf Primary School

Reserve Primary School

Scott Primary School

Rolling 14-Day Period
The rolling 14-day period will begin when students return to in-person instruction (hybrid or traditional).

The rolling period for each building begins when a school records a positive COVID-19 case, therefore, the rolling periods may be different for each building.

If a school or the district moves to virtual instruction, the rolling 14-day period resets when the school/district returns to in-person instruction.
