Freshman Zach Reed wins 3rd in August Wilson playwright contest

Zach Reed, a freshman at Shaler Area High School, placed third in WQED’s August Wilson Education Project “The 11th Play Competition” for his play, “Lead Astray.”

The playwright competition, in which students were asked to write a play about their community, set in the first decade of the 21st century, is part of WQED’s August Wilson Education Project designed to commemorate the 70th birthday of the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright.

During the 2014-2015 school year, WQED implemented The August Wilson Education Project, supported by The PNC Foundation, for hundreds of local and national educators and students. The Project included contests, community events and biographical resources about Wilson for teachers and students.
