Shaler Area School District is proud to welcome Sean Aiken as the new Shaler Area Superintendent of Schools.

Shaler Area School Board approved Mr. Aiken, the current assistant superintendent at West Allegheny School District, to the position during a special voting meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 4. Mr. Aiken’s contract runs from Dec. 1 through June 30, 2019.

“We are very pleased to be able to welcome Mr. Aiken to the district as the next superintendent of schools,” said Dr. Vic Morrone, acting superintendent at Shaler Area.

“Mr. Aiken has proven himself as an educational leader with a commitment to building a foundation of relationships with all stakeholders. His strength as a leader and communicator, as well as experience as a teacher, principal and administrator will be an asset to Shaler Area.”

Mr. Aiken has more than 20 years experience in education. In addition to serving as assistant superintendent at West Allegheny, he has served as principal of Quaker Valley Middle School and assistant principal of Shaler Area Middle School. Mr. Aiken began his career in education as a special education teacher.

“I am excited by this opportunity to return to Shaler Area as superintendent of schools and continue the positive educational growth it has seen in recent years,” Mr. Aiken said.

“I feel a special connection to the district and community after serving as assistant principal in Shaler Area. I know the dedication of the staff and look forward to building upon that as we work together to strengthen the district.”

Mr. Aiken has a bachelor’s degree from Malone University and master’s degree from Regent University. He received his Superintendent’s Letter of Eligibility from the University of Pittsburgh and is completing his doctorate through the University of Pittsburgh.

“On behalf of the board, I cannot express how happy we are to welcome Mr. Aiken back to Shaler Area,” said John Fries, school board president.

“The superintendent search committee worked diligently to find the best candidate and ‘right fit’ for Shaler Area, which we found in Mr. Aiken. We consider Shaler Area lucky to have Mr. Aiken’s experience and leadership as we continue to build upon the great strides we have made in education.”

Mr. Aiken lives in Ross Township with his wife, Anna, and five children.
