Shaler Area students accepted into PMEA Honors ensembles
Shaler Area students were selected to participate in the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association Honors ensembles this fall. 

PMEA Honors Chorus
Eight Shaler Area High School students were accepted into the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association Honors Chorus. The PMEA District I Honors Chorus Festival will be held at Trinity High School on October 27 & 28. The festival is comprised of students from 54 districts in Allegheny, Washington, Westmoreland, Greene, and Fayette County. Two choirs will be showcased at the festival (full female and full male ensembles) with a total of 150 singers.

PMEA Honors Band

Four Shaler Area High School students were accepted into the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association Honors Band. The students were selected from more than 500 students from 60 different schools who auditioned for a spot in the band. The students selected for the Honors Band will rehearse with guest conductors before performing on Sunday, Nov. 19.

PMEA Honors Orchestra
Three Shaler Area High School students were accepted into the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association Honors Orchestra. The students were selected from more than 200 students from 30 different schools who auditioned for a spot in the band. The students selected for the Honors Band will rehearse with guest conductor David Torns, the Associate Conductor and Principal Pops conductor of the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra, and perform at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 19, at Bethel Park High School.

PMEA District 1 Honors Jazz Band
Four Shaler Area High School students who were accepted into the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association PMEA District 1 Honors Jazz Band. The PMEA District 1 Honors Jazz Band Festival will be held at Moon Area on December 8 & 9, 2017. This festival is comprised of students from 54 districts in Allegheny, Washington, Westmoreland, Greene, and Fayette County. The guest conductors for the Jazz Bands are: Dr. Kent Engelhardt (Youngstown State University), Mr. Robert Matchett (Seneca Valley), and Paul Ferguson (Case Western Reserve University). These students will spend two full days rehearsing with the conductors and then showcase their talents at the concert performance on December 9 at 4 p.m.
