PMEA District 1 Band
Six Shaler Area High School students were accepted into the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) District 1 Band. The students were selected based on their level of musicianship, involvement in PMEA, as well as their involvement in the arts. The students will rehearse for two days straight and showcase their hard work, as well as represent Shaler Area, at Upper St. Clair High School on Friday, January 12, 2018 during the PMEA District 1 Band Festival. This festival is comprised of students from 54 districts in Allegheny, Washington, Westmoreland, Greene, and Fayette County. Don Owens, Coordinator Emeritus of the Jazz Studies and Pedagogy Program, Director Emeritus, Contemporary Music Ensemble, and the National HS Music Institute at Northwestern University, will be the guest conductor.

Congratulations to the four Shaler Area High School students who were accepted into the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) District 1 Senior High Orchestra. The PMEA District 1 Senior High Orchestra Festival will be held at Gateway High School on February 8-10, 2018. This festival is comprised of students from 54 districts in Allegheny, Washington, Westmoreland, Greene, and Fayette County. The guest conductor will be Dr. Jason Worzbyt from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Congratulations to the three Shaler Area High School students who were accepted into the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) District 1 Junior High Orchestra. The PMEA District 1 Junior High Orchestra Festival will be held at Mt. Lebanon High School on March 16 & 17, 2018. This festival is comprised of students from 54 districts in Allegheny, Washington, Westmoreland, Greene, and Fayette County. The guest conductor will be Bingiee Shiu from Memorial High School in Houston, Texas.

Congratulations to the six Shaler Area High School students who were accepted into the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) District 1 Chorus. The PMEA District 1 Chorus Festival will be held at East Allegheny High School on January 24-26, 2018. This festival is comprised of students from 54 districts in Allegheny, Washington, Westmoreland, Greene, and Fayette County. The concert will be held on Friday, January 26, at 7 p.m.
