Shaler Area Homecoming 2017 a huge success

Shaler Area School District hosted Homecoming 2017 on Saturday, Sept. 23.

Shaler Area Education Foundation hosted the Family Wellness 5K Run/Walk in memory of Frank Orga (SAEF trustee and devoted community member) to kick off the day of homecoming events, which included a parade, picnic, and football game vs. PennHills, followed by a high school dance in the evening.

Students, alumni, local fire departments and police departments and area community groups were all represented in the parade and illustrated the theme of “Now Showing.” Students’ floats depicted “Grease” (freshmen), “Star Wars” (sophomores), “Mary Poppins” (juniors), “Jaws” (seniors), and “The Wizard of Oz” (performing arts).

Senior Sidne Shipman was named Homecoming Queen for the senior class’ winning float depicting “Jaws.” Ms. Shipman was escorted by Zach Reed and accompanied by attendants Morgan Bendel, Maura Fisher, and Cara Roth.

Students also were recognized for their creativity and hard work in the banner competition.
