Shaler Area High School presents Beauty and the Beast the musical

Shaler Area High School students will present “a tale as old as time” when the curtain rises on Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” the Broadway musical for two weekends in March.

“Beauty and the Beast” the musical was adapted from the Walt Disney Pictures 1991 animated classic, which was based on a classic French fairy tale. The musical tells the story of a prince, played by junior Alex Almonte, who has been placed under a spell and turned into a beast for his selfish behavior. To reverse the spell, the Beast must learn to love Belle, played by senior Natalie Carey, the young woman he imprisons in his castle. The story is complicated when Gaston, played by senior Dan Horgan, becomes infuriated by Belle’s continued rejection of his marriage proposals and decides to form a mob of villagers and storm the Beast’s castle.

The musical cast also includes many of the film favorites including the Beast’s castle staff members: Lumiere, played by junior Michael Bly; Cogsworth, played by junior Bella James; Mrs. Potts, played by senior Taryn Nasiadka; and Chip, played by sophomore Alyssa Lorenz.

“Beauty and the Beast” will run March 1-3 and March 8-9. The performances will be 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, March 1-2 and March 8-9, and 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 3, at the high school auditorium, located at 381 Wible Run Road.

Tickets are $13 for reserve seating or $10 for general admission. Residents with a Silver Titan Pass receive general admission tickets for free. Senior citizens are invited to attend the dress rehearsal performance on Wednesday, February 27, at 5 p.m. for free.
