Shaler Area students accepted into the PMEA orchestra ensembles
Shaler Area is proud to announce nine Shaler Area High School students were accepted into the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association orchestra ensembles, including the District 1 orchestra and honors orchestra.

Seven Shaler Area middle and high school students were accepted into the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association Junior High District Orchestra. The Jr. High District Orchestra is made up of band and orchestra students in 7th, 8th and 9th grade. These students will rehearse and perform at Upper St. Clair on March 22-23, 2019. The guest conductor is Melinda Pertu, director of the symphony orchestra at Westminster College.

Allison Ai (8th grade) – Viola
Talia Montgomery (8th grade) – Violin
Felicity Agostino (9th grade) – Violin
Maeve Snyder (9th grade) – Viola
Erika Kenst (9th grade) – Clarinet
Alyssa Hillwig (9th grade) – Trumpet


Additionally, two Shaler Area High School students were accepted into the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association Honors Orchestra. More than 300 students from 30 schools auditioned for the ensemble. The PMEA Honors Orchestra performed on November 18 under the direction of conductor Dr. John Fetter, Ph.D., assistant professor of music education at the Eastman School of Music.
