Shaler Area High School students earn top honor in World Languages Competition

Shaler Area High School world language students earned top awards in the World Languages Competition sponsored by the Department of Modern Languages and Cultures at Slippery Rock University on October 9.

A total of 17 Shaler Area students studying French, Spanish, and Japanese competed in an hour-long, computerized test of their language and cultural knowledge. The following students were recognized:

French language competition
French 1: Freshman Madeline Turner, 2nd place
French 3: Junior Gabriella Mizera, 1st place

Japanese language competition
Japanese 1: Freshman Mai Swendsen, 1st place; Freshman Emma Wunderlin, 2nd place
Japanese 2: Sophomore Zoe Babbit, 1st place; Sophomore Jenna Facer, 2nd place
Japanese 3: Junior Thomas Henshaw, 2nd place; Junior Nathan Hayward, 3rd place
