Q: What day is orientation for grades K, 4, 7 and 9?

A: Wednesday, August, 23, 2017

Q: Is this a mandatory orientation?

A: Yes. For students in grades 4, 7 and 9, this is a required ½ day program and attendance will be taken. We encourage students to attend the entire program. Parents need to be present for the kindergarten event, and this event is optional.

Q: What is covered during orientation?

A: On this day, our incoming students will have the opportunity to ride their bus, meet their teachers and learn to navigate their way through our schools. The buses will run according to the assigned routes for grades 4, 7 and 9. Each building has a unique schedule and activities planned to help ease the transition into a new building. Transportation will NOT be provided for kindergarten orientation.

Q: What time does Orientation Day start? What time does Orientation Day end?

A: Orientation will run on the normal building schedule for Grades 4, 7 and 9. Drop off times are as follows:
Elementary: 8:00 a.m. – 8:10 a.m.
Middle School: 7:30 a.m. – 7:40 a.m.
High School: 6:50 a.m. – 7:00 a.m.

A: Orientation will conclude at the end of the student school day for grades 4, 7, and 9. Dismissal will begin at:
Elementary: 12:30 p.m.
Middle School: 12:15 p.m.
High School: 11:45 a.m.

A: Kindergarten Orientation Day will be as follows:
Burchfield Primary 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.
Jeffery Primary 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.
Marzolf Primary 1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Reserve Primary 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.
Rogers Primary 1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. (at Burchfield Primary School)

Orientation Day will include bus orientation. Parents must attend this event with their child and transportation will not be provided.

Q: Will transportation be provided?

A: Yes. Shaler Area School District buses will be running a normal schedule for students in grades 4, 7 and 9. Parents/Guardians must transport children to Kindergarten Orientation Day. Please refer to your welcome back letter with transportation information that includes your official pick up and drop off location/time. Please be patient as bus drivers will still be getting familiar with new bus routes. If you have not received your transportation information by Friday, August 18, 2017, please contact 412-492-1200 ext. 8-2824.

Q: Will lunch be provided?

A: Lunch will be provided for students at the Elementary School, Middle School and High School ONLY during the Orientation Day program. Kindergarten Orientation Day will not include lunch. Lunch can be purchased for the following prices:
Primary/Elementary Student Lunch Price: $2.15
Secondary (MS & HS) Student Lunch Price: $2.40
