Changes to the grading system for the 2017-18 school year

Starting in the 2017-18 school year, Shaler Area students will see some changes to the grading system across all grade levels.

The district administrators, teachers, and counselors spent several months during the 2016-17 school year reviewing the district’s grading scale and grading system outlined in Policy No. 213 Assessment of Student Progress to determine if it is fair, accurate, and balanced based on the work completed at each grade level.

Based on the review committee’s research and discussions, the following changes were recommended and approved in the first reading of the revised policy on June 21. The second and final reading of the policy took place during the July 12 School Board meeting. All changes will take affect during the 2017-18 school year. The policy draft can be viewed in its entirety on the School Board webpage, starting on page 33 of the July 2017 education attachments. The final version will be posted on the Board Policy webpage
