Shaler Area approves new transportation provider for 2017-18
The Shaler Area School Board approved a new contracted transportation provider for the 2017-18 school year during its regular voting meeting on March 15.
Starting on July 1, 2017, ABC Transit Inc. will provide transportation services to Shaler Area School District. ABC Transit has been providing transportation services to area school districts since 2013 and is currently the exclusive transportation provider for Fox Chapel Area, North Hills, Riverview and Shady Side Academy. It also provides transportation services for Hampton Township School District, North Allegheny, Pittsburgh Public Schools and Seneca Valley, as well as Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh.
Shaler Area’s contract with its current transportation provider ends June 30. In anticipation of this contract expiring, the District solicited proposals for a new transportation provider this winter. The District received several proposals and ABC Transit proposed the best combination of service, experience, equipment and rates.
The new contract will continue through the 2021-22 school year.
