Middle School students design a robotic obstacle for library's mini golf fundraiser

A group of Shaler Area Middle School students are applying engineering and robotics lessons from their STEAM classes to design and build a miniature golf hole for the Shaler North Hills Library's Caddy Stacks fundraising event.

Under the supervision of middle school STEAM teacher Mike LaGamba, Dominic Ditommaso, Sasha Dzurovchik, Michael Giazonni and Ethan James have given up their lunch periods and study halls to work on the project. The students designed robot obstacles, blinking lights and a robotic door that opens and closes, which will all be placed for their golf hole.

The Shaler North Hills Library's Caddy Stacks event is Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 18-19, 2017, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. There also will be a "teens only" golfing event from 7-9 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18.
