Shaler Area High School took first place in the Fairchild Challenge at Phipps: Challenge #1.
The Fairchild Challenge at Phipps is a yearlong environmental competition in which students must complete monthly challenges, which will be combined into an overall score at the conclusion of the school year. In Challenge #1, high school students were tasked with writing and illustrating a picture book that exposes young children to nature.
The high school students’ “Missy’s Rainstorm” book earned a perfect score. Judges for Challenge #1 represented Chatham University, Pittsburgh Center for Creative Reuse, Pittsburgh Society of Illustrators and Tree Pittsburgh.
