While in high school, he played football, wrestling and track. Walter played on the 1976 National Champions for the University of Pittsburgh. He played in the ’75 Sun Bowl, ’76 Sugar Bowl, ’77 Gator Bowl and ’78 Tangerine Bowl. He was the 5th round draft choice for the Detroit Lions.

Jesse DellaValle - Shaler Area Class of 2010 

Jesse played both football and basketball in high school. He was a 3 time All Conference selection in AAAA North Conference. At Penn State he was elected Team Captain his senior season by the coaches and teammates. Jesse was a 3 time Academic All Big Ten Selection.

Jill DiNucci - Shaler Area Class of 2006 

Jill played basketball in high school. She was the leading scorer for all four years at Shaler Area High School. She was the 3rd leading scorer in Shaler Area History. Jill went on to play basketball at the University of Chicago.

Olivia DiNucci - Shaler Area Class of 2009 

At Shaler Area, Olivia played basketball and ran track & field. She was the Post-Gazette North Fabulous 5 for 2 years. Olivia was the 5th leading scorer in Shaler Area history. At Emerson College she was the GNAC Rookie of the Year.

Brandon Lehmeier - Shaler Area Class of 2001 

Brandon played football and was on the wrestling team. He was a WPIAL champion in the 189 lb. weight class. He was elected All Conference Football and All time leading rusher over 3000 yards. Brandon was also elected All Conference Wrestling with over 100 wins.

Samantha Smyers - Shaler Area Class of 2010 

Samantha played three years on the boy’s golf team until a separate girl’s golf team was formed. She was #22 in the PAA Championship. She was a four time WPIAL Championship qualifier. Samantha was on the golf team at St. Francis College.

The Shaler Area School District Athletic Hall of Fame was created in 2000 to recognize those individuals who have brought prestige and pride to the Shaler Area School District athletic program and to our community either as a player, coach, administrator, or supporter.

Hall of Fame inductees can include individual athletes, teams or coaches, administrators, teachers, community contributors or supporters. The Hall of Fame Committee reviews all nomination forms to determine nominees to be selected and inducted into the Shaler Area School District Athletic Hall of Fame.

The Class of 2016 Hall of Fame inductees will be honored and inducted into the Shaler Area School District Athletic Hall of Fame during a banquet on Saturday, Oct. 1.
