Congratulations to the High School Latin students for excelling in mythology and Latin exams

Thirty Shaler Area High School students participated in and received recognition for their performance on two national exams, which tested their knowledge in the Latin language and mythology.

Shaler Area students enrolled in Latin language classes at the high school took the National Latin Exam, which is sponsored by the American Classical League and the National Junion Classical League. The timed, 40-question, multiple-choice test is offered to students on seven levels and tests their knowledge of grammar, comprehension, mythology, derivatives, literature, Roman life, history, geography, oral Latin and Latin in use in the modern world.

The following students were recognized for their scores:

In Latin I, Mia Fantozzi, Alyssa Krause and Emily Weidner received ribbons and certificates. Adam Seibert, Alyssa Ferianc, William Dwyer, Madaline Wightman, Juliana Wightman, Shannon Dunn, Lachlan Loudon, Meghan Balkey, Jordan Dourlain, Rebecca Sagi, Justin DeSabato and Nick Stewart received certificates.

In Latin II, Rosalia Paras received the Gold Summa Cum Laude award. Amanda Sartori, Emily Yuretich, James Clark and Natalie Bedel received the Silver Maxima Cum Laude award. Antonio Tedesco, Kaitlin Parente and Christian Seelhorst received the Cum Laude award.

In Latin III, Sydney Schmitt and Noelle Koch received the Magna Cum Laude award. Rachel Gralewski received the Cum Laude award.

In Latin IV Grammar, Josh Bartosh received the Gold Summa Cum Laude award.

And in Latin V-VI, Josiah Johnson received the Silver Maxima Cum Laude award.

In the Medusa Mythology Exam, an international competition for students in grades 6 to 12 to test their knowledge of mythology. The theme for this year’s timed, 40-question, multiple-choice exam was “Monsters in corporibus.” All of the questions involved a monster.

The following students were recognized for their scores in this exam:

Josiah Johnson received the Silver Medal award, and Emily Ondo and Madison Rhodes received the Corona Olivae award.
