Burchfield Primary students take top awards in Garden Club Federation of Pennsylvania contests
  


Burchfield Primary students entered the Garden Club Federation of Pennsylvania’s Smokey Bear/Woodsy Owl poster contest and poetry contest for the first time this year and came back with top local and state prizes.


The following students have been recognized for their work:

Woodsy Owl Poster Contest:
Baleigh Mooney (2nd grade) 1st local, 1st state.
Dunnovan Ronel (3rd grade) 1st local
William Rea (3rd grade) 2nd local
Nate Grimes (3rd grade) 3rd local

Smokey Bear Poster Contest:
Parker Fox (3rd grade) 3rd local, 4th state
Brady McDonald (2nd grade) 2nd local
Darius Malecki (2nd grade) 3rd local
Alyssandra Poliziani (3rd grade) 1st local
Madison Werner (3rd grade) 2nd local

Poetry Contest:
Isabelle Dutkovic (3rd grade) 1st local, 1st state

Art teacher Jennie O’Dell opened the contest up to all second- and third-graders as part of a unit lesson, during which she taught the students about character drawing, background and foreground, texture plates, lettering and font design.

The students entered the contest through the Ingomar Garden Club, District 9, and Chris Hawthorne, conservation youth chairperson for the garden club presented the students with certificates and ribbons for their accomplishments on May 22.

“I’m very happy and pleased for all of the students,” Hawthorne said.
