High School students win Best Robotics Design in the Vex Robotics Competition

Shaler Area High School’s robotics team “Fish’s Minions” won Best Robotics Design at the VEX Robotics Competition at Ambridge High School, on March 26.

The competition, presented by the Robotics Education & Competition Foundation, provide middle school and high school students with the STEM activity that focuses on science, technology, engineering and math.

Shaler Area’s team of seven high school students competed against 5 other teams from Ohio and Pennsylvania. Shaler Area’s team included Daniel Borgen, Colin Morse, Sean Easler, Garrett Provident, Alec Logan, Matthew Prosser and Maxwell Borza.

The competition presents an engineering challenging in the form of a game. This year’s “Skyline” challenge tasked teams to build a robot with the VEX Robotics Design System that had autonomous and remote controlled components. The robot was to be no larger than 18x18x18 inches to start and able to stack blocks on top of one another to score points.
