Shaler Area students receive top honors in the Fairchild Challenge at Phipps challenges

Shaler Area Middle School and High School students are competing against peers throughout the area in the Fairchild Challenge at Phipps, a yearlong environmental competition.

Students are asked to complete a series of six challenges throughout the year that focus on a different environmental issue or concept. Shaler Area middle and high school students are being recognized for their accomplishments throughout the course of the competition.

Challenge 2: Personal Action
“Be the Change”
Students were challenged to consider how personal lifestyle choices could reduce the greenhouse gases that contribute to climate change and then chose a specific behavioral change to carry out over the course of one month. Students then wrote about their experiences.
