"A Taste of Shaler Area" event to benefit new Education Foundation

Shaler Area Education Foundation will host its first fundraising event to benefit the students and academic programs at Shaler Area School District.

“A Taste of Shaler Area” will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 19, at Shaler Area High School.

The event will feature food from local restaurants, music and a variety of silent auction items, including student artwork and a $5,000 Duquesne University scholarship.

The Shaler Area Education Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the educational needs and curricular advancement of Shaler Area students by raising funds that can be used to purchase additional resources to increase the educational opportunities for all students in the district.

“We wanted our first fundraising event to highlight the businesses that make up Shaler Area and the students we will benefit through the event,” said Dr. Tim Royall, president of the foundation’s board of trustees.

The event will include specialty food samples from local businesses in the Shaler Area community including: Hog’s Head Bar & Grill, Pasquale’s Pizzeria, Le Thai Café, The Boulevard Restaurant & Bar, Wilk’s Eats & Treats Deli, Luca’s Pizzeria, Cole Café, Frank’s Pizza and Chicken, DeMore’s Pizzeria and The Nutrition Group.

Additionally, The Bleil Brothers, a jazz band that includes a current Shaler Area High School senior and recent graduates, will provide entertainment throughout the evening.

Student artwork will be available in a silent auction during the March 19 event, but the Shaler Area Education Foundation will extend the silent auction for the Duquesne University scholarship beyond the date of the event. The silent auction for the $5,000 Duquesne University scholarship will open with a minimum starting bid of $2,500 and run from March 19 through March 31.

“We are very excited to invite the community to join us in supporting the Shaler Area School District by raising money for initiatives, scholarships and mini-grants that will expand classroom programs and student opportunities in the district,” Dr. Royall said.

Presale tickets are $20 donation per person and on sale in the high school activities office, 381 Wible Run Road. Tickets are $25 at the door. Contact the activities office for more information at 412-492-1200 ext. 1531.
