Shaler Area completes new entry project at Burchfield Primary to improve safety

Shaler Area School District staff recently completed a project to improve the safety and security of Burchfield Primary School.

Visitors to Burchfield Primary now will have to enter the building through a series of multiple secured doors. Burchfield staff still will “buzz” visitors into the building at the main door. However, the installation of a third set of doors will force visitors to enter the main office to sign in before staff will unlock the doors giving visitors access to the rest of the building. The captured vestibule concept is used at the high school, middle school and elementary school.

“We are always looking to improve the safety and security of our facilities,” said Dr. Vic Morrone, acting superintendent. “The new entry system at Burchfield Primary provides an added level of security to monitor visitors in that building.”

District administration and buildings and grounds staff are looking to install similar features at the remaining primary buildings.
