Shaler Area school community comes together to support one another

Shaler Area School District students, staff and organizations are coming together to honor the memory Ava Campbell, Marzolf Primary School first-grade student, who died on Sunday, Sept. 27, as the result of an automobile accident.

Throughout the week, there are several opportunities to come together with members of the Titan family to honor and celebrate Ava’s young life.

Friday, Oct. 2
The Shaler Area Titan football family will be collecting donations for the Campbell family during the varsity game Friday night to help offset funeral expenses. Primrose Flowers, in Etna, has donated balloons for a balloon release to occur during the game in Ava Campbell’s honor. Balloons will be sold for $1 and an additional $1 donation can be made to have a personal message attached. In addition, the football booster group will be donating their share of the 50/50 raffle from Friday night’s game to the fund that has been set up.

The Shaler Cubs also will be collecting monetary donations all week at practice and the Shaler Area cheerleaders will be assisting with donations Friday night.

After Friday’s 7:30 p.m. home game against North Allegheny, all donations raised during the week and at the game will be donated to the fund set up in the Campbell family’s name at Allegheny Valley Bank. 

Friday, Oct. 2
During the Friday night Shaler Area varsity football game against North Allegheny, $1 of every gate admission will be put toward a scholarship, to be administered by the Shaler Area Education Foundation, in Ava Campbell’s name.

Tuesday, Oct. 6
The Shaler Area Titans Ice Hockey team will open their season at 9pm on Tuesday, Oct. 6, at the Alpha Ice Complex by donating 100 percent of all paid admissions to the opening game against Canon-McMillan will be donated to the Campbell family fund. Additionally, all proceeds from the night’s 50/50 raffle will be donated to the family.

Monetary donations collected will be donated deposited into a fund has been created to help offset funeral costs via Dave and Amber Campbell c/o Allegheny Valley Bank, 2000 Mt. Troy Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15212.

Additional events and memorials will be planned in the coming weeks. Please keep the Campbell family and entire Shaler Area community in your thoughts as we mourn this tremendous loss together.
