SAMS Principal's Welcome Letter to Parents, Guardians and Students

Dear Parents, Guardians and Students,

Welcome to Shaler Area Middle School, home of the Titans! We are very excited about the upcoming 2017-18 school year and are looking forward to welcoming a new group of seventh graders to our building during 7th Grade Orientation Half Day on Wednesday, August 23, 2017. Students will ride their assigned bus to and from school on this half day, and will be dismissed at 12:15PM. The morning will consist of rotation activities to introduce you to the building and to each other, meet teachers, and eat lunch. We know that this will be a great first step in your Middle School journey!

The faculty and staff have also been working hard to prepare for the first full day of school on Thursday, August 24, 2017. The student school day will begin at 7:40am and end at 2:50pm. When students get off of the bus that morning, seventh graders will report to the cafeteria and eighth graders will report to Gym A. These are the same locations that students are to report to each morning. As always, breakfast is available in the cafeteria for anyone – seventh or eighth grade – who would like to eat; eighth graders who wish to eat breakfast may also use the breakfast station in the auditorium lobby outside Gym A.

Middle School individual student schedules will be posted and can be viewed on EdLine on Tuesday August 15, 2017 after 3PM. Please used the same EdLine username and passcode that you have used in the past, or contact the EdLine help desk at: edline@sasd.k12.pa.us should you experience any issues.

The Middle School will be open for parent/student visitations during the dates/times listed below. Please feel free to come into the school during these times to walk the building if you would like to become familiar with the location of your classes. Maps will be available in the front lobby to assist you.

Wednesday, August 16 – 7:30am – 3:00 pm

Thursday, August 17 – 7:30am – 3:00 pm

The principals and a few staff members will be available for an informal question and answer session in our school cafeteria on Wednesday, August 16 from 2-3pm and Thursday, August 17 from 8-9am. These visits are optional, but will provide an opportunity to ask any final questions before school begins.

Please note that parents/students will not be able to visit August 18-23, 2017, as our faculty and staff will be engaged in workshops and preparing our building for the opening of the school year. Thank you for your understanding.

More information regarding the school year will be available on the SAMS website as we approach the first days of school. If you have registered e-mail with the District, then hopefully you received information regarding our student dress code and use of book bags at our school (this information is also posted on the website). For clarification, students may bring book bags to and from school; however, students may not use book bags and bags during the school day to transport books and materials between classes.
