Shaler Area names its new primary school
Shaler Area is proud to announce “Scott Primary School” as the official name of the new primary school being built on Scott Avenue at the former Rogers Primary School site.

The Shaler Area School Board of Directors approved the name during its Aug. 16 voting meeting.

The District solicited feedback through a community survey in the spring of 2017 to begin the naming process. A naming committee, representing various stakeholder groups (parents, community members, board members, administrators, and teachers) then met in July to review all submissions. More than 500 individuals submitted up to three responses each as part of the survey. The naming committee submitted their recommendation to the superintendent who presented it to the school board at its August meeting.

Scott Primary School will be a two-story, 82,279-square-foot structure that will accommodate 460 to 600 students in kindergarten through third grade. The school is designed to house each grade level in its own neighborhood of classrooms and special education rooms and includes additional parking capacity, enhanced security features, a separate cafeteria, library, gymnasium and STEAM room.

Rogers Primary School closed its doors April 2015 following an electrical fire. The Shaler Area School Board voted August 2015 to proceed with the schematic designs to demolish and construct a new school on the site.
