Shaler Area Middle School welcomes new principal
Shaler Area is proud to welcome Dr. Eric Stennett as the next Shaler Area Middle School principal.

Shaler Area School Board members approved Dr. Stennett to the position during their August 15 voting meeting. Dr. Stennett replaces Mr. Marty Martynuska who will be serving as the Reserve Primary School principal.

Dr. Stennett has 27 years of experience in education and has excelled as a middle level assistant principal and principal in school districts in Ohio and western Pennsylvania, including 10 years at Shaler Area from 1998 to 2008. Most recently, Dr. Stennett served as principal of Hampton Township Middle School, and he has been working as an assistant professor of education and Director of the Ed. D. in Leadership and Administration Program at Point Park University.

“We are very excited to welcome Dr. Stennett back to Shaler Area School District,” said Superintendent Sean Aiken. “Dr. Stennett brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in middle school leadership to the district.”

Dr. Stennett has a bachelor’s degree from Wittenberg University, in Ohio, a master’s degree from Wright State University, in Ohio, and received his doctorate in education from Nova Southeastern University, in Florida. Dr. Stennett also holds an instructional technology certification from Duquesne University.

Dr. Stennett is a 1985 Shaler Area graduate and served in the U.S. Army Reserve for 15 years. He is a veteran of the Gulf War and Operation Enduring Freedom. 

Dr. Stennett has three children. He and his wife, Colleen, live in Hampton.
