Shaler Area is proud to announce Burchfield Primary School principal Jeff Rojik is the recipient of this year’s Administrator Appreciation Award presented by the Pennsylvania School Counselors Association.

Each year, the Pennsylvania School Counselors Association recognizes school administrators who demonstrate an understanding and support of, commitment to, and belief in the role of school counselors and comprehensive, developmental school counseling programs.

Mr. Rojik was nominated by Burchfield Primary school counselor Lezlie DelVecchio-Marks for his support of school counseling.

“It is crucial for a school counselor to have a strong relationship with an administrator in order for the school counseling program to be successful,” Mrs. DelVecchio-Marks said. “Jeff makes my job so much easier because he truly understands the school counseling role.”

Mr. Rojik and Mrs. DelVecchio-Marks recently co-presented at the Allegheny County School Counseling Association on the topic “The Importance of the Administrator-Counselor Relationship.”

In addition to supporting the school’s positive behavior interventions and supports programs, Mr. Rojik also co-facilitates the Mega Men group, which promotes social growth for all third-grade male students; is an active member of the Burchfield School Counseling Advisory Council, which helps improve the school counseling program; and attends parent information nights presented by the school counselor.

Mr. Rojik also allows students to choose the Halloween costume he will wear as an incentive to help raise money for The Highmark Caring Place and the Burchfield Caring Team, which helps support grieving students.

“Jeff’s support helps us as a school community effectively help and serve our students,” Mrs. DelVecchio-Marks said.

The award was presented to Mr. Rojik during the 64th annual Pennsylvania School Counselors Association Conference, held in Pittsburgh at the end of November.
