JAZZ BAND

Credit Value: 1

Prerequisites: Director Audition


Semester: Full Year
Open to Grades: 9,10,11,12

The Jazz Bands are musical organizations of select instrumentalists consisting of four sections of instruments: trumpet, trombone, saxophone, and rhythm (piano, drums, lead and bass guitar).  The music performed by the groups is in the rhythmic and improvisatory style of Jazz, Blues, Rock and Funk-Fusion.  The Jazz Band performs at many concerts, invitational programs and school assemblies throughout the year.

SYMPHONIC BAND

 SYMPHONIC BAND

Credit Value: 1
Periods Per Week: 5                      
Prerequisites: None


Semester: Full Year
Open to Grades: 9,10,11,12

The Symphonic Band program offers the instrumental students the opportunity to improve their musical abilities and performance levels.  Students participating in this band may elect to participate in Marching Band.

WIND ENSEMBLE   

Credit Value: 1
Periods Per Week: 5
Prerequisites: Symphonic Band


Semester: Full Year
Open to Grades: 10,11,12

Students in this band will be selected by the director.  The group will be smaller in number and have a balanced instrumentation.  Students participating in this band may elect to participate in Marching Band.

MUSIC THEORY
MUSIC THEORY

Credit Value: 1/2
Periods Per Week: 5                      
Prerequisites: None


Semester: 1st
Open to Grades: 9,10,11,12

This course is offered to any student who may have an interest in music theory or composition.  The course will include:  theory (reading, writing and notating music), basic keyboard knowledge, harmony, counterpoint, and orchestration.

Grading Policy:
Grades will include class assignments, weekly quizzes, unit tests, and a final composition/arranging project.

MUSIC APP
MUSIC APPRECIATION

Credit Value: 1/2
Periods Per Week: 5                      
Prerequisites: None


Semester: 2nd
Open to Grades: 9,10,11,12

Music Appreciation is a class that is offered to any student who may have an interest in music.  This class involves a variety of history, listening and playing experiences.

Grading Policy:
Grades will include class assignments, weekly quizzes, unit tests, and a final project.
