Testing Procedures for GATE

If you are interested in having a child tested you will need to write a letter addressed to Mrs. Oros or Mr. Penn, basically saying that you think that he/she has good grades, the idea may have been suggested by his/her classroom teacher, and that you think that he/she would benefit from inclusion in the program.

Once we receive that letter (please include current email address on the letter), we do some preliminary paperwork and send it up to our School Psychologists. Then they will contact you for official "permission to test". Then they will arrange a time and place for the first phase of testing with you. This phase usually consists of a test called the K-Bit, it is basically a short test that indicates how the child will perform on the full scale IQ test. If the K-Bit indicates that he/she will score high, they will arrange a time and date for the Full Scale IQ test (usually the WISC-R or the WISC-IV).

Whether or not he/she is found to qualify for G.A.T.E., you will receive a G.W.R. (Gifted Written Report) that will explain in detail how he/she did on the test...in every subset of the test. It is a very valuable insight into how your child learns.
A parent can request that a child be tested one time per year.

This probably didn't answer your questions (or just created a few more), so e-mail [email protected]
