Student Representatives
Each school year, the Shaler Area School Board of Directors invites two high school students to serve as student representatives on the board. The student representatives serve as liaisons between the student body and the school board during the monthly school board meetings. The student representatives provide feedback and input to the school board members as well as bring concerns and ideas from the student body to the school board and administration.
Meet the 2017-2018 Student Representatives:
Jake Solomon and Sophia Kachur
Sophia Kachur, a Shaler Area High School senior, returns to the school board as student representative for the second year after serving in the position during the 2016-17 school year.
Sophia is a member of the Student Political Action Committee for Education club (SPACE) and the National Art Honor Society as well as a member of the high school stage crew. She has an interest in local government and is exploring options to continue her involvement in local government after graduation.
Jake Solomon, a junior at Shaler Area High School, joins the School Board in his first year as a student representative.
Jake is a member of the high school's student government and has an interest in the high school's SPACE club and lacrosse team. He is looking forward to exploring local politics at the school board level and making a difference as student representative.
